Artist Statement

Journal Entry: Sat May 3, 2008, 8:25 AM
In my most recent works, I have been focusing on the ideas of pattern, iconic imagery and storytelling. Within each of these subjects I strived to evoke a reaction from the viewer.

In the Kuroshiro prints I have worked with not only the idea of pattern but also through these images I tell a story. Within theses heroic images I introduce simple patterns to create complex spaces. The result is the merging of historical prescribed imagery with a contemporized visual solution-field of pattern.

The Science images are based not only on the idea of pattern, but also repetition. Interesting space is created not only with the pattern, but also through the use of anatomy, new shapes are formed

American Monster is a group of prints that focus on the iconic imagery of serial killers as well as storytelling. Within each portrait, details about their lives are included. This series of portraits, work to evoke a strong feeling within the viewer, engaging them in a battle of hate vs. glorification.

My work comes out of an obsession with pattern. In the Kuroshiro prints, the spiral pattern is the symbol of the hero. The Science images use pattern to complete the space. The pattern is not visual in the American Monster series, but instead, each of these icons represents the patterns or compulsion that these figures uncontrollably followed

This is James Gilks (owner of SerialKillerCalendar.com and editor of Serial Killer Magazine). I am putting together a new Serial Killer Art book (called "THE ART OF MURDER - INSIDE THE WORLD OF SERIAL KILLERS, CRIME ART AND MURDERABELLIA”;) that is going feature the best true crime artists on the planet. I would love you to be in it. If you are interested, we would need samples of the crime based art you have made and a little bit about yourself. Could you write an article about yourself, your art and your views on crime art (why you do it, why you feel people are interested in serial killers, etc)? I want to give all the artists involved as much room in the book as possible so there are no length restraints. The book also features a lot of murderabellia so if you happen to have a collection yourself, we would love to know about it and your feelings on the subject. The book will be over 300 pages) and is going to cost a fortune to print but I am excited to get it published soon. This is really going to be something amazing. Never before has anyone attempted a book like this that specifically deals with crime art and murderabellia from every angle (not just from the side of people who dont understand it or hate it). Other contributors to the book include (Nico Claux, Johnny Machine, Hart Fisher from the original Jeffrey Dahmer comic book series, Matt Verges, Mark Stinson, Tod from MurderAuction.com, Ken from Supernaught, Macabre, Joe Coleman, Jonathan Davis, Jack Malebranche, Chuck Hodi, DaisySeven.com, Bill Moseley, Andrew D. Gore from Satans Sideshow, the Ed Gein Collection and a TON more). If you are interested, we would love to also include your art and article in a upcoming issue of Serial Killer Magazine. Let me know if you are interested. You can best contact me at my personal email address (madhatterdesign@gmail.com).

Freedom is not free. It was bought with the price of 3 nails, a cross and the blood of Jesus on a hill called Golgotha. Jesus is my savior, my defender, my rock and my strong tower. In Him I find rest, forgiveness, peace and most importantly salvation.
